Check before every journey

Please check your bike regularly before every ride to ensure that you are always safe on the road.

Please check that:

  • the quick-release levers or axles are correctly closed or tightened (5-7.5 Nm)
  • the axle nuts are firmly tightened (20-30 Nm)
  • Check the wheels for correct concentricity and the tires for sufficient air pressure (see marking on the side of the tires) and for integrity.
  • If you discover a wheel that is not running smoothly, have it checked and repaired immediately by a bicycle specialist.
  • If you notice any damage to the tires (tread & sidewall), such as holes or cracks, you should replace them immediately. Continuing to drive here represents a high safety risk.

Test the brakes for correct function and braking effect when stationary.

  • Do the levers have a defined pressure point or can they be pulled through to the handlebars? Is the hydraulic brake system tight or is fluid leaking?
  • Check brake cables and lines for external damage.
  • Check the brake pads and brake discs for wear.
  • Ensure that all parts relevant to the brake system are firmly seated. (brake callipers, brake levers, brake discs)

A visual inspection of the drive must be carried out before every journey.

  • Check the belt/chain for external damage.
  • Are all the teeth of the belt tight, is it cracked or frayed, or are carbon fibers exposed?
  • Remove coarse dirt from the drivetrain.
  • Check the tight fit of the bottom bracket and the crank as well as the eccentric bottom bracket housing.
  • Check that the chainring and crank bolts are tight.
  • Check the alignment and tension of the chain or belt.
  • Carry out a function test of the front and rear lights.
  • Check the light cable for external damage.
  • Check the plug contact on the hub dynamo.

Check your bike for any “rattling noises”, get to the bottom of them and eliminate them before you set off.

  • Are the mudguards permanently fitted?
  • Are the handlebars, stem, seat post, saddle and other attachments securely mounted?
