We will send you all further information about the event in good time by newsletter.
+++ Update 25.05.2020 +++
Due to the current situation, the Czech Republic is planning to reopen its borders in mid-June. However, we cannot yet estimate the extent to which possible hygiene measures and other restrictions will affect the event. If it is not possible to travel to the Czech Republic in September, we will only hold the Gravel Spartakiade in Germany.
If we have to cancel the event, we will return any participation fees already paid to you via Paypal.
We will inform you regularly and in good time about changes here and on our social media channels.
Action! What can you expect?
At the weekend, the 5. and September 6, 2020 we welcome you to a 2-day “gravel” tripfrom Dresden to the beautiful Bohemian Switzerland. On 05.09. we start at 10 a.m. for two tours, the length and speed of which you can choose yourself. This means you can ride a “race” or simply enjoy the beautiful route through Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland as a tour.
The destination is once again a secret campsite in the Czech Republic, where you can or must pitch your tents after the tour. To help you regain your strength, the barbecue is fired up in the evening and there are various classic and vegetarian delicacies and beer around the campfire.
The next day we take it easy – on a guided tour back to the starting point in Dresden.
The routes – what do you have to be prepared for?
As the name suggests, there will be a lot of “gravel” but occasional road sections cannot be avoided on the “epic” routes through Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland on Saturday. Once again this year, there will be checkpoints to acknowledge your visit. At the last checkpoint, you can then decide whether you still have enough energy left for the long stretch or whether you would prefer to sit at the barbecue a little earlier. On the short route (approx. 80 km), you will have covered approx. 1300 meters of altitude at the end of the day; on the long route (approx. 140 km), you will have to overcome approx. 2500 meters of altitude.
On Sunday it will be a little quieter and we will ride back to Dresden together on an approx. 80 km guided tour.
Your equipment – what do you need to take with you?
As the announcement suggests, you’ll need a fancy “gravel bike” with a tire width of at least 32 mm. We recommend around 40 mm. This means you are perfectly prepared for the different surfaces on the route and will also make fast progress. Of course you can also ride along on a cross bike or MTB. We would not recommend mom’s city bike or a racing bike. In addition to the bike, you will also need a spare inner tube, pump, repair kit and tools for repairs on the road. If you want to ride for longer, you should also have lights with you.
You will also need a
GPS-enabled bike computer
to find the route, which we will send you in the week before the tour. If you don’t have such a device, you can of course also team up with fellow cyclists to complete the tour together.
You will also need to bring suitable clothing for two days of cycling, something to eat (food in the evening and morning is included in the starting price), dishes and your overnight accommodation (tent, tarp…). Bikepacking bags are suitable for saddles, frames and/or handlebars.
And of course, we certainly don’t need to mention it, a helmet is compulsory!
