A cosy living-room atmosphere instead of a lecture theatre
Around 60 people made their way to our showroom on 30 October to be inspired together over a cold soft drink or a hot coffee.
On our little stage: Tom and Daniel from veloheld – two old friends who met through their love of bicycles and who together navigate their way through deserts, forests and wild ideas on their bikes.
Instead of a lecture, there was a chit-chat among friends. Amidst old anecdotes & photos, new plans and honest thoughts about being being outdoors, the doubts and the carrying on.
An evening full of real stories, funny encounters with animals, spine-tingling moments on mountain passes and lots and lots of genuine love of cycling.
Tom’s setup? As simple as possible.
His ideas? Wild and far-reaching.
His next tour? Huge!
Line 26: Innsbruck to Tokyo – and Daniel is joining for three weeks with one, from Istanbul to Georgia. The adventure will be undertaken by Tom on his new gravel bike the veloheld.iconX with Pinion drivetrain embark.
The planning for the bike and setup is already in full swing.
What remains? The desire to simply just get started.
Tom also talked about his first trips, about moments of doubt, too much luggage, and encounters that stick in your mind. And about the magic that happens when you just set off.
What makes Tom stand out on his trips? He can simply sleep anywhere – whether it’s a wild boar or a starry sky.
One night he was even woken by an unknown animal that licked his face and was so persistent that he eventually decided to sleep in the tent after all.
He also says that sometimes he isn’t at all sure whether his plans will work out – but he sets off anyway.
Because that’s exactly what it’s all about: set off, dream, be on the move be. Allowing feelings, feeling your body, clearing your mind.
And when you then stand at the top of the pass and look back, it is suddenly all clear.
Setting off does not mean simply starting – but rather doing so at all.
And that’s exactly what it was all about on that evening: not about technique, packing lists or altitude gain.
But rather it’s about just giving it a go. Having the courage to try something new, even if the plan is still up in the air.
About stories that come to life along the way. And about big smiles, when you realise: “I have really set off.”
We would like to say thank you to Tom and Daniel – and to everyone who was there: for listening, laughing along, dreaming along.
A big thank you also to Thomas Schlorke, who captured the evening in pictures.
