How do I find the right handlebar width for my gravel bike?

The right handlebar width ensures comfort, control and riding enjoyment – especially on long distances and off-road.This is how you can easily determine it:

Measure shoulder width:
Press the two outer shoulder joints (acromion) and measure the distance between them – this gives you your anatomical shoulder width.
Select handlebar width:
For gravel bikes, we recommend handlebars that are about 2-4 cm wider than your shoulder width – this will give you more control and stability off-road.
Note the flare:
The Ritchey Butano is flared in the lower handlebar (flare). This makes the handlebars approx. 9 cm wider at the bottom – ideal for safe handling on descents or for space with bikepacking bags.

Our tip:
If you’re wavering between two widths, choose the narrower version for sportier riding – and the wider one for more comfort and control off-road.
