Dragon’s Blood, the starting point
But let’s start at the beginning, with the steel frame. The colour is called Dragon’s Blood and forms the starting point for everything that follows in this build. To match this, a silver finish, because black would be lost against such a dark red, and mudguards measuring 50 mm in the same shade as the frame.
Red right down to the smallest detail

Headset, bottom bracket and seat post clamp are made by Chris King, all three red anodised. Chris King has been manufacturing for over forty years in Portland bicycle components that are renowned their precision and their durability renowned are. They simply last forever. This goes well with a steel frame, which was also built to last forever for eternity.
Then we move on to the red thread. At the front rotates itself one SON 28 hub dynamo and at the rear a rear wheel hub Hope Pro 5, both also in anodised red. For the DT Swiss GR531 rims, there was as the finishing touch there were also spoke nipples in anodised red.
And this is the point at which one can quite say: “This is a full circle moment.”
Light, which doesn’t require a battery
The SON 28 hub dynamo powers a Supernova M99 DyPro on the handlebars, on the luggage rack is mounted a TL3 mini. Both offer nothing but advantages: no recharging, no forgetting the bulb, no “Blimey, the light is flat” halfway through the journey.
The luggage rack is a tube with the EVO logo , in addition there is a Hebie Fix18 kickstand. Handy for everyday use or for long cycling trips. And now on to one thing that is absolutely worth its weight in gold in everyday life: The Abus 6200/90 lock as well as the Pitlock safety catches on both thru-axles. Together they provide these components maximum safety.
Electronic switch, upright sit
The drivetrain is electronic with a Shimano GRX 827 Di2 in 1×12, 40 teeth at the front and a 10-51 cassette at the rear. With this range, you can tackle any hill with ease, even when you’re carrying a full cycle tour’s worth of luggage on your bike. The cockpit consists of a Ritchey WCS VB90 stem and a WCS VentureMax handlebar measuring 420 mm, plus ten spacers. Ten? Yes, exactly! This is an advantage if you want to ride long distances frequently on a cycle tour, as it allows you to sit in a more upright and relaxed position.
The saddle is a Brooks C15 Allweather in black. The tyres chosen are the Schwalbe G-One RS in 40 mm with transparent sidewalls – true all-rounders for all surfaces.

Lights, mudguards, a luggage rack, a kickstand and a lock. It’s got everything a gravel randonneur needs to be a reliable companion for cycle touring.
