INTROThis veloheld.lane in frame size M came with Pitlock at the front, Pitlock at the rear and a Tex-Lock from the workshop. So with more security technology than some front doors. That tells you pretty exactly where this bike spends its life spends. Out and about and indeed as a touring/city bike with Alfine 8 plus Gates belt.
“veloheld.lane” in red as an example of a custom RAL color

The Color That Won't Stay Still

It’s not without reason that the colour is called Illusion Sweet Berry Wine, because depending on how you stand in front of it, the berry red shifts towards a darker shade or takes on a brighter hue. It has a natural gloss finish, so that the ‘Illusion’ really does come to life.
This was complemented by black accents: black trim, black fittings, black wheels and a black bell. Even the 50 mm mudguards are painted in RAL 9005.
The end result is a very harmonious overall look.

Eight gears, no oil, no excuses

The rear wheel is fitted with a Shimano Alfine 8-speed. The gear mechanism is therefore housed in a sealed casing and protected from external environmental influences. To complement this, there’s a low-maintenance Gates CDX belt, which doesn’t need oiling. This makes the belt ideal for everyday use and means it won’t leave black streaks on the right leg of your trousers.

The light is at the top

The front luggage rack was a Pelago Commuter Front Rack made of aluminium in size Medium, with permanently fitted SON Edelux II lights. It might sound like a minor detail, but it’s the reason why the whole front end looks so tidy. Power is supplied by a SON hub in the front wheel.
The same principle applies at the rear: the luggage rack was a Tubus Vega Evo, also featuring a permanently fitted rear light with a red lens in a black housing.

The tires used here were Schwalbe 40-millimeter tires

The tyres fitted here were Schwalbe Tour/City in 40-622. Forty millimetres is more than enough for a city bike. And that’s exactly what you notice where the tram tracks meet the cobblestones. Or at that one pothole you’ve known about for three years but still hit every time. With the Schwalbe Tour/City in 40 mm, that’s no problem.

So what now?

Two pannier racks, lights at both ends, a strap, in-hub gears, mudguards, two P-locks. This isn’t a fair-weather bike sitting in the cellar waiting for the perfect Sunday. It’s a Monday-to-Sunday bike – whether you’ve got shopping on the pannier rack or drizzle in your face, this city bike will get you anywhere, reliably.
